Sheep Ireland, Teagasc & University of Limerick (Irish members of the SusSheP project) are looking for Irish sheep farmers to complete a questionnaire to help us learn more about sheep breeding practices on Irish sheep farms. SusSheP (Sustainable Sheep Production) is a European Research Area Network (ERA-Net) Research Project involving partners from Ireland, UK, Norway and France. SusShep is a 3 year project which began in April 2017.
The link to the questionnaire is https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9VX8YHL
The questionnaire takes an average of 12 mins to complete and the results will be of huge value to the SusSheP project and future sheep breeding developments in Ireland.
The project is looking at three main areas;
- Factors affecting ewe longevity with a view to developing robust genetic indexes to improve this important trait
- Labour efficiency and carbon output across different sheep production systems – example prolific flocks Vs non-prolific flocks
- Investigate ways to increase the conception rate from sheep cervical AI
