During the past two weeks, Sheep Ireland organized five regional LambPlus meetings around the country. Over 200 farmers joined them to discuss our breeding programme and how to improve their genetics.
Meeting Date | Location |
Tuesday 29/11 | Donegal, Ballybofey |
Wednesday 30/11 | Mayo, Castlebar |
Wednesday 30/11 | Kerry, Killarney |
Tuesday 6/12 | Kilkenny, Kilkenny |
Wednesday 7/12 | Westmeath, Mullingar |
Recent years show a significant increase in the number of LambPlus breeders and we are expecting this to continue, helped by the new Sheep Improvement Scheme (SIS).
Overall, the feedback to date has been very positive from both pedigree and commercial farmers, and will endeavor to continue this trend in the coming year.
The topics discussed were:
- Why Join LambPlus?
- What data needs to be collected & how to submit it?
- What are the benefits of LambPlus?
- Sheep Improvement Scheme
- How to sign-up for LambPlus
The level of discussion has been excellent at all the meetings, with plenty of breeders looking to find out more about Performance recording and Genetic improvement.
Due to high demand following the launch of the DAFM SIS scheme, we have extended the deadline to join LambPlus until January 31st, 2023.
We also raffled off 2 €100 vouchers at each meeting, and 10 lucky breeders and commercial farmers will be able to use these when ordering genotyping or purchasing a ram at the 2023 LambPlus ram sale. Congratulations to the winners!
